Biography:
Alvaro Segura is a seven Emmy Awards winner who started his career in the world of Visual Effects back in 1996. He has been a Lead Effects, Senior Effects Technical Director, and Visual Effects Artist for the most important studios in the world, including MPC, Method Studios, Atomic Fiction, Dreamworks Animations, Dreamworks DDU, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Blue Sky, The Mill, Logan, Rythm and Hues, and Prologue, where he has contributed to some of the most amazing blockbuster feature films.
He is currently a Houdini Lead Effects for MPC in Los Angeles, CA.
Alvaro has a deep passion for art and a constant hunger to contemplate it, decode it and understand it from different points of view. He craves to digest it and recreate it in his own universe as an FX Artist. Through his professional experience, he has learned to observe the apparent simplicities of daily phenomena and admire the complexities behind the forces that cause them.
Alvaro feels empathy with the Renaissance ideal of art, which involves research and knowledge. Thus, as part of his restless passion for the arts, he has developed a tremendous curiosity about science, technology, math and programming, trying to go beyond the mere human sensibility and organic intuition that an artist needs in order to create. Concepts such as vectors, matrices, boolean operations, mass, velocity, acceleration, temperature, forces, have become very attractive to him and are part of his routine as a FX Artist.
In Houdini, he has found the tool to reconcile art and science, creativity and technical knowledge, shapes and algorithms, artwork and simulations, tackling the creative process from multiple angles, while keeping up the discipline necessary to investigate solutions that go beyond simple intuition.
Alvaro constantly pushes himself to develop a spirit of inquiry for every stage of FX Production, and currently dedicates a big part of his daily routine learning more about anything available to improve his career, trying to shape himself not only as a professional, but also as a human being.
